Love Songs Revisited (Full Album + Bonus Song)
By and large, I possess an overwhelming admiration for the English language. It is vast and rich, vibrant and creative, inclusive and ever-growing. Yet, in all of its detail and complexity, the language is woefully lacking in its variety to describe the "feelings of strong or constant affection for a person or thing." The word in question is love - a perfectly good and useful word in itself. However, we use the word far to often; more specifically, we use a single word to describe too many variation of "love." Perhaps we could take a lesson from our ancient greek predecessors. The ancient Greek language used at least four distinct word to describe different facets of love: Eros - intimate or romantic love, Storge - familial love, Philia - friendship love, Agape - selfless or unconditional love. The songs on this album delve into each of the aforementioned Greek words. Depending on what mood I'm in or how my day is going, the lyrics in these songs can blur the lines between those Greek definitions. While most of this album is instrumental, hopefully you know many of the lyrics to these famous songs. If not, I encourage you to look them up. My goal for this album is not for the listener to categorize certain song to certain words. I simply wanted to explore and appreciate the deep musical and lyrical talent of the writers of these tunes, and express them humbly in the way Jesus has blessed me. I sincerely hope this album blesses you!
